The Gluten Sensitivity Genetic Test 2019 detects the genes (HLA) that control the immune system’s reaction to gluten.
The test utilises a stool sample rather than blood as the immunologic reactions to gluten proteins are found within the intestinal tract and not in the blood.
Patients who have diagnostic confusion regarding whether or not they are gluten sensitive may benefit from testing.
Gluten sensitivity is a common food sensitivity that is characterised by adverse reactions to the gluten protein found in wheat, rye and barley.
The Gluten Sensitivity Genetic Test assesses the probability that a person may be gluten sensitive by detecting HLA genes. There are several Human Leukocyte Antigens (HLA) within the body but HLA-DQ is the most useful to determine the probability that a person may be gluten sensitive.
This test assesses the probability of a gluten sensitivity rather than the disease itself as some people may have the genes for gluten sensitivity but have no detectable evidence or symptoms of an immune reaction to gluten.
The test is best for those who are genetically predisposed to gluten sensitivity, or are experiencing symptoms of bloating, gastrointestinal discomfort, fatigue, and/or nausea.
If a gluten sensitivity is probable, our team will guide patients on the best steps forward.
